Empress Jingu Prepares Her Troops to Attack the Three Korean Kingdoms, 1868

Comments - Terrific image of the legendary Empress Jingu preparing her troops for the conquest of Korea in the third century. She sits on a platform in the center dressed in elegant robes, her face hidden behind a shield on a pole, a courtier sheltering her with a large umbrella. Her elderly advisor Takeuchi no Sukune sits on the ground nearby, his hair and beard white. At left, the group listens to a messenger, who gestures with his hand. The samurai wear formal court attire over armor, and black caps. An interesting depiction of this historic leader.
