Yoshitsune's Downhill Charge at Hiyodorigoe in the Battle of Ichi-no-Tani, 1843 - 1847

Comments - Fantastic depiction of the famous battle at the Taira fortress of Ichi-no-Tani in 1184. Minamoto no Yoshitsune and his men attacked the castle from the mountains above, rushing down the steep hill of Hiyodorigoe to mount the surprise assault. The warriors gallop and slide down the nearly vertical hill at right while below, another squad of Minamoto warriors attacks the castle by land simultaneously. At lower left, arrows rain down over the attackers as some samurai begin scaling the wall, one warrior falling backwards after being shot with an arrow. A lively depiction of this famous battle, packed with action and detail.
