Original Yoshitora (active circa 1840 - 1880) Japanese Woodblock Print
Departing for the Front from the Fuji River, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Terrific image of troops gathered along the edge of the swiftly flowing Fuji River in preparation for battle. At lower left, a messenger kneels on the rocky shore with his helmet on the ground beside him. Troops are massed behind the defenses along the shore, some on horseback with standards flying above the bundles of bamboo and wooden shields forming a barrier against enemies approaching from the water. An intriguing scene with fine bokashi shading.

Artist - Yoshitora (active circa 1840 - 1880)

Image Size - 13 1/4" x 19 1/8"
