A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction

Vengeance of the Loyal Retainers, 1846 - Handsome scene from the famous tale of the 47 ronin of the samurai gathered in the snow outside Moronao's palace as they prepare for the night attack. Yuranosuke, leader of the ronin, stands in the foreground, directing the samurai with his tasseled command baton. Each of the men wears the ronin's trademark black and white dogtooth bordered robe, and Yuranosuke wears a battle helmet with a cape attached. The Ryogoku Bridge stretches across the river behind them. An interesting design.
