Hiroshige's Aritaya Tokaido - In 1832 Hiroshige traveled with an entourage of the shogun's officials from Edo (Tokyo) to Kyoto along the Tokaido road. His journey led him to produce many different series based on this often traveled and famous route. This charming edition published by Aritaya between 1843 - 1847 features classic scenes emphasizing the natural beauty of the landscape. These terrific original Hiroshige woodblocks offer another perspective of life along the Tokaido, with small figures of travelers set into handsome views of mountains, water, and countryside.
