Actors' New Year's Festival, 1886

Comments - Lively scene of actors gathered to celebrate the New Year. In the center, one man dances about with a robe draped over his head and a fan in one hand, a strange expression on his face as a companion in a turtle costume crawls along the carpeted floor in front of him. A large platter on the floor behind the men holds an entire fish. At lower right, a beauty plays the koto, while other men smoke pipes, eat, or drink sake. An interesting and rare depiction of actors offstage. The first time we've seen this design.
