Variations of Flowers, 1899 - Attractive triptych depicting a group of beauties practicing ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arranging. The kneeling beauty at right holds a purple iris in one hand and a pair of scissors in the other as a young girl behind her carries a pitcher of water. The woman in the center smiles back at her companions, carrying a basket with a single blossom and several buds on a leafy stem. At left, another girl carefully places an arrangement on the floor. Floral displays in a variety of containers are hung on the wall at left. Beautifully detailed with lacquer on the hair and the black wooden pail at left. A charming scene.
