Comments - Handsome kakemono or vertical diptych depicting two of Japan's Seven Lucky Gods. Hotei, the God of Contentment and Happiness, wades through a river balancing his always full bag of food on his head, a fan stuck into the opening. He smiles as he lifts his black robe, keeping it out of the flowing water. Above, Fukurokuju, the God of Wealth, Happiness, and Longevity, flies on a crane, his elongated head covered with a black cloth. He carries a knobby walking stick with a scroll attached to it. An intriguing image of these popular deities, very nicely detailed.
