Comments - Interesting scene of a beauty standing atop a boulder at the water's edge with her arms wrapped around a willow tree. She looks ahead with an angry frown, her long hair falling over her shoulders. Her kimono features a red and white triangle pattern, tied with a green and black floral obi. Wooden pilings frame the scene at the bottom. This may be a portrait of Kiyohime, who had fallen in love with a young monk named Anchin at Dojo Temple. After she declared her love for him, the devoted monk rebuffed her and fled to the temple. She was so distraught that she pursued him and was stopped on her way to the temple by the Hidaka River. Her passion was so intense that she changed into a serpent to swim across the river. She is typically shown with a triangle print kimono reminiscent of scales and a trailing obi that suggests the form of a snake. We're not sure if this is correct, nonetheless, an interesting print.
