Comments - Great kabuki portrait of Kawarazaki Gonjuro I as the samurai Akushichibei Kagekiyo gripping a sword upright that has been concealed in the handle of a shamisen. Short hair sticks up atop his head, with longer locks pulled into a low ponytail over his back. He wears a boldly patterned kimono over armor trimmed with fur cuffs. A handsome design, detailed with fine line work in the hair and soft shading on the sky.
