Iwai Shijaku as Koshiji, 1871

Comments - Charming kabuki portrait of Iwai Shijaku as the beauty Koshiji reading a book at night as she sits beside a lamp. Her mouth is slightly agape as if surprised or alarmed. Her blue kimono features fans floating on a stream with swirling currents, worn over a red under robe and tied with a light blue obi that reverses to red. Nicely detailed with embossing on the white kimono collar and trim, and soft shading on the background.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 9 1/2" + margins as shown
