Comments - Interesting scene from the tragic play "Ichi-no-tani Futaba Gunki" at the Ichimura Theater in which the warrior Kumagai Jiro Naozane honorably sacrifices his own son after killing an illegitimate son of the emperor. A right, Kumagai clenches his fan between his teeth, frowning with worry as his wife, Sagami, questions him about their son, unaware of the boy's death. The beauty leans forward with a happy grin, her blue kimono patterned with flowers. At left, a signpost stands in front of a house, with wooden steps leading up to it at right. Blossoming plum branches frame the scene. From left, the actors are Bando Shuka I and Ichimura Takenojo V. Nice expressive figures.

Condition - This print with good detail as shown. Two separate panels, backed with paper. Stitching holes at one side of each panel, loss at edge, repaired. Diagonal fold at side, slight rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details.
