Comments - Handsome kabuki scene from the play "Hachiman Matsuri Yomiya no Nigiwai" at the Ichimura Theater of the lovers Hozumi Shinazaburo and the geisha Miyokichi in an interior. Shinzaburo is a former samurai who was banished from his clan after losing a valuable incense burner in his care. He looks up at the beauty with a worried frown as he pats his cheek with a towel, a cup of sake in his other hand. Miyokichi looks back at him sweetly as she fastens her obi about her waist, a roll of tissues caught between her teeth. A pile of clothes lies on the floor behind her, a tobacco set nearby. Draperies overhead frame two large paper lanterns. From left, the actors are Kawarazaki Gonjuro I and Iwai Kumesaburo III. An attractive design with expressive figures and nice detail in the setting.
