Series; Mirror of the True Loyalty of the Faithful Retainers, Individually, 1853 - 1857

Yazama Jutaro Mitsuoki Fighting an Opponent - Great image from the tale of the 47 ronin of Yazama Jutaro Mitsuoki fighting an opponent inside Moronao's palace during the night attack. Gripping his sword with both hands, he counters his enemy's blade as the fellow steps into the ashes of a floor hearth. Mitsuoki stares ahead with a grim, determined frown, wearing the traditional black and white dogtooth bordered robe over his armor and a battle helmet with an attached black cape. Very finely spattered white pigment over the figures simulates a cloud of ash from the hearth. Nice expressive figures with fine bokashi shading on the background.

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 9 1/2" + margins as shown
