Comments - Interesting portrait of Nakamura Shikan II as the otokodate or street knight Hagun no Shichibei, actually Yamada Saburo, in the kabuki play "Hana ni Tori Sakigake Soga" at the Nakamura Theater. He leans forward with an angry frown as he tucks up the back of his robe, grabbing hold of his shakuhachi flute to use as a weapon if needed. He wears a blue geometric patterned kimono lined with a floral print over a red under robe, a white cloth tied around his neck. An expressive early kabuki print by Kuniyoshi.
