Travelers beside a Palanquin, 1876

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of three travelers beside a palanquin. The fellow at left leans forward with a small ticket or tiny message in his hand, frowning as he looks up at the samurai in the center. The samurai regards him with a solemn expression, his brows slightly furrowed. He carries a wooden practice sword over his shoulder with a bundle of white cloth and a piece of armor wrapped around it. One of the swords at his side is covered with white cloth. The beauty at right smiles eagerly as she tucks one hand into her kimono. Nice large expressive figures set off by the deep red sky, framed by a pine tree at right.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 28 1/4"

Condition - This print with nice color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. A few small repairs and creases. Please see photos for details.
