Comments - Interesting scene from the kabuki play "Na mo Takaki Tengajaya mura" at the Ichimura Theater. At left, ningyo-ya (doll shop) Koemon stands inside a doorway, grimacing angrily as the wife Otoki waits outside, tilting her head with a sly smile. In the center, the kyoya (Kyoto shop) sales clerk, Kyushichi looks up with a worried frown as he points at the visitor, bundles of cloth tucked under his arm. At right, Mansuke hunches forward with an angry grimace as he lifts the edge of his striped kimono. A ledger is open on a low desk behind him, and more ledgers hang on the wall at left. Blue curtains decorated with stylized pine branches and butterflies hang in the doorway. From left, the actors are Iwai Kumesaburo III, Ichikawa Kodanji IV, Kawarazaki Gonjuro I, and Seki Sanjuro III. Nice expressive figures in a handsomely detailed setting.
