Comments - Handsome scene of upper-class women gathered in an elegant room to compose poems and view the blossoming plum trees along the shore of a lake. In the center, a low table is set with a bonsai pine tree and a turtle with a mossy shell, symbols of longevity. Several young women bow respectfully, and a long-handled sake server rest on the carpeted floor between them. At right, a seated beauty holds a poem slip, while at left, a woman carries in a blossoming plum branch with two poem slips tied to it. Just beyond her, two attendants carry in trays holding mochi cakes and a pineapple. An attractive design with wonderful detail. Includes accents of metallic pigment that have oxidized to a dark tone on the vase and kimono.
