Sawamura Tossho II as Churo Onoe, 1862

Comments - Interesting kabuki portrait of Sawamura Tossho II as Churo Onoe, a junior lady-in-waiting who becomes the victim of the jealous older lady-in-waiting Iwafuji. Here, she looks warily out of the corners of her eyes, frowning with her mouth slightly agape. Her green outer kimono features large chrysanthemum blossoms, worn over a red under robe, a white cloth pinned protectively around her hairstyle. An expressive figure, detailed with embossing on the white kimono collar and trim and soft shading on the background.

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 9 3/4" + margins as shown
