Iwai Hanshiro as Shizuka gozen and Ichikawa Sadanji as Minamoto no Yoshitsune, 1881

Comments - Handsome kabuki scene featuring Iwai Hanshiro as Lady Shizuka and Ichikawa Sadanji as her sweetheart, the samurai Minamoto no Yoshitsune. The beauty looks to the side with a happy grin, a sword in her hand. Her purple outer kimono is decorated with oversized peony blossoms, worn over a red cherry blossom print kimono. At right, Yoshitsune stares at her with an angry frown, holding a fan. He wears a blue coat patterned with the Minamoto paulownia symbol, trimmed with a red pleated collar and tasseled bows. Cherry blossoms frame the scene above, with a room extending into the background. A colorful design with large expressive figures, detailed with embossing on the white kimono collars.

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 18 7/8" + margins as shown
