Celebration of the Imperial Silver Wedding Anniversary, 1894 - Interesting depiction of a celebration for the Meiji Emperor and Empress's Silver Wedding Anniversary. The Emperor stands on a platform in the center as a uniformed man bows to him, the Empress seated on a throne at left flanked by ladies-in-waiting in Western dress. Dignitaries in uniforms line the room, with a few foreigners on chairs at far right. The scene appears as if on the inside of an unrolled scroll, with a graduated set of sakes cups for a wedding ceremony on a tray at left, originally in silver pigment that has oxidized to a dark tone. A nicely detailed design in an unusual and attractive format. Includes burnishing on the black uniforms.
