Original Hiroshige III (1843 - 1894) Japanese Woodblock Print
View of Military Drill and Distant View of the Suspension Bridge at the Garden of Fukiage Palace, 1887

Comments - Terrific image of the military drilling on a parade ground. Imperial troops march in rows with their weapons resting over their shoulders, three buglers leading the way. An officer rides on horseback in the center, wearing a red tassel on his hat. Additional soldiers line the grounds, standing at attention under blossoming cherry trees. A border of clouds edges in purple separates the figures from a distant view at upper right of the new suspension bridge in the garden of Fukiage Palace. A handsome depiction of the modern Meiji army.

Artist - Hiroshige III (1843 - 1894)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 28 1/8" + margins as shown
