by Hiroshige (1797 - 1858) and Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)
Series; The Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido by Two Brushes
Kakegawa: A Country Girl, 1854 - Handsome scene from the collaborative series "Tokaido by Two Brushes" featuring figures by Toyokuni III and landscapes by Hiroshige. In the foreground, a country beauty walks along carrying a large kettle as a young boy tags along beside her, smiling and gesturing. The sleeves of her kimono are tied back with a red sash and the hem is pulled up as well, a straw hat hanging at her back and a cloth protectively wrapped about her hair. Above, two travelers make their way across a log bridge topped with turf. A torii gate can be seen at left, and workers are busy in the rice fields beyond. A charming design, attractively detailed and shaded, with a sweet expression on the beauty's face.
