Comments - Interesting scene from the kabuki play "Kanadehon Chushingura," the tale of the 47 ronin. In Act 6, Okaru has sold herself to a brothel to earn the money for her father to join the vendetta against Lord Moronao. Here, she looks up from the palanquin in which she is leaving, biting a cloth anxiously. In the center, her husband, the ronin Hayano Kampei reacts with anger, throwing his hands out at his sides in an attempt to prevent her departure. At right, another samurai watches the confrontation with an angry frown. Nice expressive figures in a handsomely detailed setting, with fine line work in the hair.
