New Joruri Play at the Kabukiza: Makura Jishi, 1893

Comments - Intriguing scene from the play "Makura Jishi" at the Kabukiza or Kabuki Theater of a courtesan holding up the long flowing white wig and peony headdress of a lion dancer. She looks over her shoulder with a slight frown as a couple at right watches her. The man frowns angrily as he eyes the beauty suspiciously. The woman beside him wears an interesting kimono patterned with colorful feathers. From left, the actors are Ichikawa Danjuro, Onoe Kikugoro, and Nakamura Fukusuke. Nicely detailed with embossing on the white wig.
