Beauties on a Pleasure Boat, 1864

Comments - Terrific triptych depicting a group of beauties enjoying a ride on a pleasure boat. At left, a woman pours out a cup of sake for a companion, while in the center a beauty with a fan looks up at the four men sitting on the roof, enjoying the moonlit view. The men drink and smoke, and one holds a flowering cherry branch over his shoulder. In the front of the vessel, a woman gestures towards a fantastic pine tree bonsai, a fine lacquer tray piled with refreshments below. Wonderful color in this lovely illustration of a classic summer pastime. Nicely detailed with light embossing on the white kimono collars.

Artist - Kunisada II (1823 - 1880)

Image Size - 14" x 28 7/8"
