The Kan'ei to Shoho Era - Fantastic design from a series depicting beauties from different historical periods. This print depicts the courtesan Takao of the Miuraya reclining as she reads a letter. Her hair is carefully styled with delicate curls around her face, the sides looped down over her shoulders and drawn up into a topknot at the back. A fine blind partially separates the beauty from a procession of women and men. The unique large format figure fills the page beautifully, creating an almost abstract graphic effect that is very modern. Nicely detailed with areas of burnishing in the hair and incredibly fine line work in the delicate hairline. A striking design.
