Original Chikanobu (1838 - 1912) Japanese Woodblock Print
Cherry Blossom Viewing

Series; Women's Activities of the Tokugawa Era

Cherry Blossom Viewing - Wonderful triptych of upper-class ladies enjoying a picnic under a blossoming cherry tree. Elegant lacquer bento boxes hold snacks, and graduated sake cups are stacked on a tray. The woman sitting on a cushion at left has a brush in hand, a low table with a writing set nearby. In the center, a beauty lifts up a young girl who ties a poem slip to a branch of the flowering tree, while in the background several women play blind man's bluff. A charming woodblock depicting this seasonal activity, nicely detailed. Includes burnishing n the hair and black kimono, embossing in the white kimono collars and trim, and metallic pigment that has oxidized to a dark tone on the teapot and lacquer boxes.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 28"

Condition - This print with excellent color as shown. Three separate panels, backed with paper. A few small spots, a couple small raised bumps on background from backing paper. Please see photos for details.
