Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Beauty Bowing, 1859

Comments - Attractive portrait of a beauty bowing as she kneels beside a black lacquer tray containing a folded robe. She wears a striking kimono patterned with a mantle covered with long colorful feathers, a refence to the Noh play Hagoromo (The Feather Robe), a drama about a tennin or celestial being who loses the feathered robe that allows her to fly. The background is softly shaded from blue to red to green. The first time we've seen this lovely design.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 9 7/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with good detail as shown. A couple small repairs, creasing. Please see photos for details.
