Policemen Attacking, 1893

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of two policemen attacking a man in the courtyard of his home. The policeman at bottom center raises an iron truncheon above his head, ready to strike, his sleeves tied back with a white sash. Outside the garden fence at left, a beauty in a pleasure boat and a man watch the confrontation, the man throwing his hand out in a stopping motion. Snow blankets the branches of a plum tree covered with blossoms and buds, and the opposite shore. An intriguing design with large expressive figures and an attractive setting.
