Comments - Attractive scene of Prince Genji stopping to wash his hands as he enters a garden. He crouches beside a stone water basin as a beauty pours water from a dipper over his outstretched hands. The young nobleman smiles happily at the beauty waiting on a stepping stone inside the fence. She wears an elegant outer robe patterned with chrysanthemums over a lightly embossed under robe, a fan in hand. A plum tree blossoms against the evening sky, and a tall stone lantern is sheltered under a straw roof. A charming subject with wonderful detail in the kimono fabrics and a handsome natural setting. Includes additional embossing on the white kimono collar and trim of the beauty at left.
