Original Hisakuni (active circa 1848 - 1854) Japanese Woodblock Print
Enoshima in Sagami Province, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Terrific scene of three beauties along the shore at Enoshima in Sagami Province, likely making a pilgrimage to the shrine on the island. Each woman has a hat and a walking stick, the woman in the center pausing to smoke a pipe as her companion at left gestures behind her with a happy smile. Giant, undulating waves crash on the beach behind them, creating a striking backdrop for the figures. The island is covered with trees, and sails can be seen in the distance as a rosy glow spreads along the horizon. The first time we've seen this handsome design.

Image Size - 14 3/8" x 29 1/4" + top margin as shown
