Original Kunichika (1835 - 1900) Japanese Woodblock Print
Scene from Seisho Daijin Araki no Ryuzo, 1873

Comments - Great scene from the kabuki play "Seisho Daijin Araki no Ryuzo" of a samurai thrusting a spear at another man. He leans forward with a tight-lipped frown as he extends his weapon, his intended victim blocking the blow with his fan while turning his head away with an angry scowl. The samurai in the center wears a black kimono with a striking burnished pattern of blossoms, leaves, and scrolls, the sleeves tied back with a purple sash. A bold design with a dynamic composition and large colorful figures.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 13 1/2" x 27 5/8"

Condition - This print with nice color and detail as shown. Three separate panels, backed with paper. A few creases. Please see photos for details.
