Comments - Intriguing kabuki scene taking place at the time of the annual Girls' Day Festival, with a special display of dolls and offerings set up on tiered red shelves in the background. The beauty in the center smiles happily as she holds a covered black lacquer box in her hand. She wears a kimono with a design of cherry blossoms and flowing water, her hair elegantly adorned with clusters of flowers and ribbons. The man at right leans against a lacquer stool, looking back at her with an unhappy expression as another fellow in a furry gray vest peers suspiciously from a window above. From left, the actors are Nakamura Fukusuke I as Shimobe Yasahei, Nakamura Tomijuro II as Iinazuke Unoki, Ichikawa Danjuro VIII as Yokozone Heitaro, and Nakamura Nakasuke II as Yokozone Heidayu. An interesting triptych with wonderful detail in the setting and household furnishings.
