Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Beauties Viewing Cherry Blossoms

Comments - Lovely scene of beauties on an outing to view the cherry blossoms. In the center, a woman stands atop the back of a maid on her hands and knees, holding onto a branch as she reaches for a poem slip offered by a young girl, to tie the message onto the tree. A beauty relaxes on the bench at right, grinning as she watches, a folding fan in hand. At left, a woman giggles into her sleeve as the young boy beside her points at the unfortunate servant. The hillside side overlooks a view of the ocean beyond, with masts poking up above the water. A charming spring subject.

Image Size - 14" x 28 7/8"
