Lucky God Daikoku, Fudo Myoo, and Priest, 1873 by Chikashige (active circa 1850 - 1890)

Original Chikashige (active circa 1850 - 1890) Japanese Woodblock Print
Lucky God Daikoku, Fudo Myoo, and Priest, 1873

Comments - Fascinating kabuki scene featuring Daikoku, one of Japan's beloved Seven Lucky Gods, the Buddhist deity Fudo Myoo at Fukugawa Naritasan Temple, and a priest. At left, Daikoku grins happily as he rests his hands atop his magic mallet. In the center, Fudo Myoo is surrounded by flames, carrying a rope in one hand and an upright sword in the other. At right, the priest eyes the god suspiciously, his brows furrowed, a string of prayer beads in one hand. A crowd of people has gathered behind them, some of the men wearing Western style hats. A great dramatic image with large colorful characters.

Image Size - 14" x 27 5/8" + margins as shown
