Series; Flowers of Edo in Old times
A Procession of Feudal Lords Visiting the Temple at Ueno - Handsome view of a feudal procession visiting the temple at Ueno. At left, two palace guards in white robes and black caps carry a large trunk over their shoulders, the chest emblazoned with the three hollyhock leaf crest of the Tokugawa clan. A group of samurai follow behind, their robes tucked up at the waist to keep them from getting dusty and dirty. In the center, the daimyo rides in an enclosed palanquin, his face screened by a fine reed blind, followed by additional retainers and trunks. An interesting subject with wonderful detail. Includes extensive burnishing on the black areas, and delicate embossing on the white robes.
