Comments - Fantastic depiction of the valiant woman warrior Tomoe Gozen on horseback, confronting the samurai Wada Yoshimori. Dressed in armor, she sits astride a dappled horse, gripping her sword over her head with both hands. Yoshimori faces her holding an enormous tree trunk above his head, about to hurl it at his enemy. A huge red sun sets behind the beauty, with red rays of light radiating across the dark night sky, and crows flying past. The young woman Yamabuki stands at left, looking up and smiling, a banner trailing over the edge of the lacquer bowl tucked under her arm. Her hair is tied back with a white sash, and she has a sword at her side. According to legend, after Tomoe Gozen was defeated by Wada Yoshimori, she became his wife. A dramatic scene with a great natural setting and finely detailed figures. A handsome samurai subject.
