Comments - Handsome kabuki scene presenting actors as some of Japan's beloved Seven Lucky Gods. At left, Kawarazaki Gonjuro I stands in a Bishamonten, while next to him Ichikawa Kodanji represents Fukurokuji. At right, Iwai Kumesaburo III is the only female of the group, Benten, smiling as she holds out a purse wrapped in tissue. Next to her, Nakamura Fukusuke I portrays Daikoku, carrying a branch with Daikoku's lucky magic mallet hanging from it. A plum tree dotted with white blossoms and buds fills the background. A charming design with an attractive natural setting.
