Firemen Reprints - Handsome image from a group of reprints relating to firemen. These designs were commissioned between 2002 and 2005 by the Nosatsu Mutsumi Shusai, an organization dedicated to nosatsu, for their annual meetings. Also known as senjafuda, nosatsu are small woodblock votive prayer slips designed to be pasted up at temples and shrines by visitors. Nosatsu became popular with travelers on pilgrimages during the Edo era, and are still used today. They also are prized as collectibles, with groups meeting to commission and trade designs. These interesting subjects are nicely detailed and printed. Most are unsigned and a few may be original designs based on earlier woodblocks, but others are reprints of Edo and Meiji era subjects. The first time we've seen prints from this unusual group.
Artist - Edo or Meiji era artist (unsigned)
Image Size - 13" x 5 3/4" + margins as shown
Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. A couple creases at top edge. Please see photos for details.
