Bill’s Curated Selection Part II - I assembled this interesting and rare collection of Yoshitoshi over the last year. Yoshitoshi works are a personal favorite. I hope you enjoy shopping my collection as much as I enjoyed putting it together. – Bill
Comments - Fantastic scene from the Zen Taiheiki of the Battle of Karashima. A retainer of Taira no Masakado, Musashi Goro Sadayo bravely makes his final stand in the center under a hail of arrows. Kneeling at the edge of a rocky cliff overlooking the sea, he wields his sword upright, slicing through many of the enemy projectiles. A fellow warrior crawls along the ground beside him, waving his own blade. Archers fire down upon the Taira from the rocky outcropping at upper right, with boats approaching below. The battle continues at left with a horseman lifting an opponent above his heads with both hands, ready to fling him to his death. A castle is nestled along the shore at left, with mountains looming in shadow in the distance against the evening sky. An incredible design filled with action and wonderful detail. A terrific early Yoshitoshi samurai subject.
