Bill’s Curated Selection Part II - I assembled this interesting and rare collection of Yoshitoshi over the last year. Yoshitoshi works are a personal favorite. I hope you enjoy shopping my collection as much as I enjoyed putting it together. – Bill
Comments - Incredible scene from the Satsuma Rebellion of rebel samurai swimming across the Kumagawa River to attack government forces from the rear. At left, men clamber up the steep embankment to confront the Imperial Army, engaging them in hand-to-hand combat with swords. Several other samurai make their way across the water as a general on horseback at right urges them forward, waving a red flag. Clouds of smoke drift up into the night sky as raindrops slant across the landscape. A dramatic and atmospheric image, wonderfully composed and detailed. Includes fine bokashi shading, and burnishing on the black uniforms. A great Yoshitoshi design.
