Bill’s Curated Selection Part II - I assembled this interesting and rare collection of Yoshitoshi over the last year. Yoshitoshi works are a personal favorite. I hope you enjoy shopping my collection as much as I enjoyed putting it together. – Bill

Comments - Fantastic triptych depicting mountain woman Yamauba and the wild boy Kintaro cracking open a kagami mochi or mirror rice cake at the New Year. The kagami mochi is used as a holiday decoration, then broken open and eaten in a traditional Shinto rite in January. Kintaro stares at the stacked mochi with an intent expression, frowning with concentration as he grips a large axe with red flames on the head. He wears a black outer over a striped kimono in pastel colors, and a black court cap. Yamauba leans forward with her hand resting against her chin, grinning happily, behind them a horned helmet tops an open wooden chest of armor. Beautifully detailed with extensive burnishing on the black kimono and embossing on Yamauba's white kimono collar. Only the second time we've seen this terrific, bold design. A rare Yoshitoshi subject and a great choice for a collector.
