Comments - Great kabuki scene from the play "Shinju tare mo yudachi" of the beauty Kojoro on a pleasure boat, looking up with an alarmed expression as Demuramachi no Shinbei stares at her from the shore at left. In the front of the boat, a black shamisen case and a pair of geta clogs can be seen. At right, Tamaya's boatman looks up with a worried frown, one hand resting atop the rudder. He wears an intricately patterned blue tie-dyed kimono over a black under garment and red loincloth, a dotted cloth wrapped around his neck. Behind him, a bird swoops across the sky and willow branches frame the scene overhead. From left, the actors are Ichikawa Ebizo V, Iwai Hanshiro VI, and Onoe Kikugoro III. A beautifully detailed design.
