Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Scene from Bunbu ryoto ogi no adauchi, 1838

Comments - Handsome scene from the kabuki play "Bunbu ryoto ogi no adauchi" at the Nakamura Theater of the beauty Itohagi and the samurai Miyamoto Musashi in an interior. Itohagi looks up at her companion with a rather crazed grin as she holds a gray robe in her hands, her kimono patterned with bush clover. Musashi stares back at her with an angry frown, his blue and white summer robe wrapped loosely about him and a towel in one hand. His swords rest on a red lacquer rack on the floor behind him. From left, the actors are Iwai Shijaku I and Nakamura Utaemon IV. Nice expressive figures.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 3/8" x 19 3/8

Condition - This print with good detail as shown. Two separate panels. A few creases, slight rippling at edge, light diagonal fold. Please see photos for details.
