Band Playing Original Painting - Terrific original painting of a band playing with two women in the foreground. At lower right, a man wearing a shirt with ruffled sleeves plays a conga drum, while a fellow musician at upper left strums a bass. Behind him, a woman in a similar ruffled costume shakes maracas. A light at upper right casts a beam of yellow light across the scene. A lively, interesting design. Born in Tokyo, Nomura Toshihiku trained as a woodblock carver and began exhibiting his own prints beginning in 1927 with the Nihon Sosaku-Hanga Kyokai, and other sosaku-hanga groups. His work was included in the Nihon Hanga Kyokai exhibition in Paris in 1934. Artist's name in kanji in pencil on reverse. The first time we've seen a work by this artist.
