Scene from Imoseyama onna teikin, 1853 - Handsome scene from the kabuki play commonly known as "Imoseyama onna teikin," which tells the story of the young samurai Koganosuke and the beauty Hinadori, who fall in love, unaware that their families are bitter rivals with estates on either side of the Yoshino River. Here, Daihanji, the father Koganosuke glares angrily as he looks across the cascading river, a few cherry blossoms drifting down over the water. At upper right, Koganosuke sits inside their home, looking up as he reads from a scroll, a boy with a shaved head offering him a covered cup of tea on a black lacquer strand. An interesting design with an attractive setting.
