Scene from Kinoshita Kage Masago no Date-zome, 1855

Comments - Interesting kabuki portrait of Nakamura Fukusuke I as Sutewakamaru in the play "Kinoshita Kage Masago no Date-zome" at the Ichimura Theater. He carries a large boulder tied to his back with rope, leaning heavily on the rustic wooden pole of a bamboo garden fence as he makes his way up a slope. He stares back over his shoulder with a rather crazed expression, his hair hanging shaggily at the sides of his face. A sword wrapped in brocade cloth rests on the ground below. A bold design with an expressive figure, detailed with fine line work in the hair.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 9 7/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with good detail as shown. Tiny loss at corner, repaired. Wrinkling at edges. Please see photos for details.
