Waiting in a Garden, 1856

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of two men waiting in a garden on a dark night. The commoner at right frowns angrily as he looks through the top of the garden gate, gesturing with his hand. He carries a paper lantern on a short pole, his blue plaid kimono tucked up at the waist for easier movement. The samurai at left looks glum as he stands under a blossoming plum tree. He wears a black outer kimono over a brown patterned under robe, his two swords at his side and a white cloth covering his head. Nice expressive figures in a handsomely detailed setting with soft shading in the evening sky.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 1/2" x 18 7/8"

Condition - This print with good detail as shown. Two attached panels, backed with paper. Vertical fold between panels. Slight rippling. Please see photos for details.
