Series; Poems for the Four Seasons

Prince Genji Arriving for Tea, 1858 - Attractive woodblock print of Prince Genji arriving for tea and poetry reading. At far left, a beauty and her young attendant prepare for the tea ceremony. The woman carefully lifts a cloth wrapped object from a black lacquer box, a tea bowl and whisk on the floor nearby. The attendant carefully holds a small box tied with a green cord. In the center, a beauty pushes an elegant lacquer cart loaded with books and scrolls. The young nobleman stands at right, smiling happily and waving his fan, wearing an elegant coat over his kimono. The verandah opens onto a large old plum tree covered with delicate blossoms against a softly shaded peach sky. A charming design embossing on the white lining of Genji's kimono, and a subtle burnished pattern in the black obi at right.
